These bars are a combination of edible cookie dough and cake-like Oreo red velvet bars. We we’re playing around with ingredients and knew we wanted something red velvet and something Oreo so these thicc beauties were born!
INGREDIENTS:
Red velvet layer:
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 3 eggs
- 2 sticks salted butter softened
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 4 tsp vanilla
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 4 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 6 tablespoons red gel food coloring (or emulsion)
- 12-16 Oreos
Oreo cookie dough layer:
- 1 1/2 cups flour
- 1 1/2 sticks of butter
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons vanilla
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 6 crushed Oreos (without the creme center)
INSTRUCTIONS:
Red velvet layer:
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium sized bowl, whisk flour, salt and cocoa powder and set to the side.
-
In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until fluffy and creamy using a hand mixer. Add the eggs one at a time, then add in the vanilla and food coloring (we used red velvet emulsion).
-
Add half of the flour and mix well then add the other half. Add the milk last and mix well.
-
In a generously greased 8×8 pan, add half of the mixture and spread across the bottom of the pan.
-
Layer the Oreos on top then add the remaining batter on top of the Oreos.
- Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out mostly clean.
-
Allow to cool completely before adding the cookie dough layer.
Oreo cookie dough layer:
- Bake your flour on a baking sheet on 350 for 5 minutes (this makes the flour edible).
- Beat together the butter, sugar, and vanilla with a hand mixer until fluffy and creamy.
- Add the baked flour, salt, and milk to the butter/sugar mixture and beat well until fully combined.
- It will look like little crumbles but keep beating until it is mostly together. Use a wooden spoon to finish bringing it together.
- Fold in the crushed Oreos.
- Add the cookie dough mixture to the top of the cooled brownies and spread evenly across the top of the pan.
- Place in the fridge until the cookie dough is slightly hardened 30-45 mins (this is to ensure clean square cuts).
ENJOY!
